Paul tells that if we faint not, in due time, we shall reap. That principle certainly applies to prayer. Maybe we could put it this way--if at first you don't receive, pray, pray again." One of the keys to effective prayer is persevering in your praying. God does not always answer our first petition concering a particular need. He often makes us wait on the answer which waiting period is a test of our faith. Are we going to give up after a few times of asking, or are we going to keep on praying till the answer is given? Too often we FAINT instead of FAITH, and we miss out on what God wanted to give us had we simply persevered in our praying. That wonderful man of faith named George Muller once wrote, "I live in the spirit of prayer. I pray as I walk, when I lie down, and when I arise. The answers are always coming. Thousands and ten thousands of times have my prayers been answered. When once I am persuaded a thing is right, I go on praying for it until the answer comes." Do you remember the question that Cain asked God when he was questioned about his brother Abel? "Am I my brother's keeper?" The truth is, we are our brother's keeper. You and I have a responsibility to our fellow human beings when it comes to their souls. Our job is to warn them of the judgment to come if they refuse to repent of their sins and turn to Christ in faith. This is not an option for us; it is our obligation both to God and to them. God made it clear to His prophet that if he failed to warn the wicked and the wicked die in his sins, God would hold Ezekiel accountable. That is a sobering thought! How many are in hell at this moment whom we failed to warn, whose blood God will require at our hands? We who know the Lord are not to keep silent but are to keep sounding the alarm to those whose very souls are destined to an eternal inferno. May we with John the Baptist proclaim, "Flee from the wrath to come! Run to Jesus and be saved!"
